Kids Cafe sites are located in successful after-school programs at churches, recreation centers and housing developments that are safe and accessible to the children's homes and schools. The Food Bank is fortunate to have the opportunity to team up with local agencies to enhance their current programs. A volunteer site-coordinator and staff are responsible for organizing the program with an emphasis toward parental involvement and educating the public about the perils of childhood hunger and attainable solutions.
Kids Cafe is a very important program, as it not only provides meals to kids experiencing hunger, but also provides the nutritional investment, education and skills they need to break the cycle of dependency on emergency food sources.
Kids Cafe sites offer daily activities such as homework help, adult mentoring, music, dance, sports, arts and crafts, nutrition education, team building games and educational field trips. The sites also participate in Kids Cafe supported activities such as 4-H summer camp, cultural excursions, and holiday parties. Support for these community programs is what makes Kids Cafe a key factor in the successful growth of many area children.
